Schoolyard Garden

First we had to prepare the soil for the garden .  We did this by tilling the land, which means turning over the soil.  The major benefits of tilling is it aerates the soil and mixes organic materials. 

The students were very eager to work on the garden.  We had to take turns using the tools.  In this picture the students are removing the grass with rakes and hoes.

At first the soil was very hard.  After the students tilled the land, the soil was softer and ready for planting.
